Shade and Awning Maintenance Tips & More Solutions

Shades and awnings are vital additions to any Arizona home, providing much-needed shade and protection from the intense sun. However, your surroundings, including environmental factors such as the elements or weather, significantly impact the durability of these shade solutions.

When In Arizona: Shade & Awning Maintenance

Arizona’s dry and hot climate may cause the colors of your shades and awnings to fade. Additionally, the arid conditions mean tiny dust particles are always in the air, ready to accumulate on your screens and awnings. If left uncleaned, these particles can lead to long-term problems, affecting the functionality and appearance of your shade installations.

It’s important to take steps to maintain and prolong the life of your awnings. With monsoon storms every summer, make sure you choose retractable awnings and patio shades, where you retract them into housing units when they are not in use.

Awning Maintenance & Cleaning

Sunbrella

Used for retractable awnings, this high-grade fabric is engineered to combine the highest level of design and performance. Sunbrella fabrics are easy to clean, mildew and fade resistant.

  • Brush off loose dirt.
  • Hose down.
  • Prepare a cleaning solution of water and mild soap such as Ivory Snow, Dreft or Woolite (no detergents).
  • Use a soft bristle brush to clean.
  • Allow cleaning solution to soak into the fabric.
  • Rinse thoroughly until all soap residue is removed.
  • Air dry.
  • May not require re-treatment depending on the age of the fabric.

Why We Recommend 303 Fabric Guard

When your Awnings become stained, dirty, or dusty, it is definitely due for a clean up. Using 303 Fabric Guard every 3-5 years gives a longer life span for your awnings so you don’t have to replace fabric. We recommend 303 Fabric Guard.

Personally Recomended by Sunbrella

The shades that we use are made with Sunbrella fabrics. Sunbrella is known for fabrics that are stain, water, dust, and weather resistant.

Enhances Awnings Performance

303 Fabric guard will get rid of dirt, water and other elements that can destroy the fabric of the awning bringing back water and stain resiliency.

Does Not Change Color

Gives the protection and cleaning you need without altering the color of the fabric.

Extra Protection:
Semi-Cassette
Housing for Awnings

Integrated cassette housing protects awning fabric when retracted. Prevent excessive fading from weather damage, bugs, birds, extending the life of your awnings.

Patio Shade & Window Sun Screen Maintenance & Cleaning

Textilene®

Used for sun screens, economy patio shades, open roll manual patio shades, motorized patio shades

Textilene is fairly easy to clean, with most stains coming off easily with just a wipe. For tough stains, bleach and hydrogen peroxide-based cleaners are useful for Textilene fabrics.

To clean this type of fabric, take a sponge with a solution of one cup of mild detergent and one cup of household bleach in three gallons of water. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and air dry completely.

SunTex

Used for box shades, sealed track shades

SunTex fabric is made of strong vinyl-coated polyester and is mildew and fade resistant. This type of fabric only needs occasional cleaning with mild soap and water.
